About Us
The Global Thinkers Project, Oxford, was launched in 2017 with the aim of reviving silenced voices in the discipline of International Relations. It explores the internationalist thought of individuals who have made significant contributions in international affairs but have been excluded from the discipline due to biases of language, region, and gender.
By encouraging IR to ‘rethink its thinkers’, the project responds to a call for a more inclusive, diverse, and ‘Global International Relations’, making Oxford a hub for research and public engagement in this area. In 2019, the project won a grant from the Oxford University John Fell Fund to expand its reach and impact.
The Project runs a discussion series that draws on the expertise of leading scholars on silenced internationalist thinkers. The series invites speakers from around the world and across disciplines (International Relations, History, Area Studies, Comparative Politics and Political Theory, Literature) to Oxford, to lead a session that focuses on a specific thinker.
The Series runs in the form of themed terms and has, thus far, focused on the Spanish-speaking world, South Asia, China, the Portuguese-speaking world and most recently, women thinkers to mark the centenary of women being allowed to matriculate at Oxford. Find out more on our past events.
